Frederick Anglade Saurat fell in love with the region and the wines produced here, so founded the winery with the help of local Spanish partners in 1890. Today, the winery has met with International acclaim and claiming an impressive historical legacy spanning the crowning ceremony of King Juan Carlos I from Spain and the wedding of King Balduino and Queen Fabiola from Belgium.
