Craggy Range Rosé 2023, Hawke’s Bay. Set in the shadow of Te Mata Peak in Hawke’s Bay, Craggy Range has had a laser focus on quality since opening in 1998. They’ve built up their vineyards from a grassroots level and are invested in the region for the long-haul – in fact, owners Terry and Mary Peabody established a 1, 000-year trust so the winery could never be sold. While they’ve made their name with Bordeaux-blend reds and Chardonnay, this rosé, featuring Merlot and Tempranillo grown on the Gimblett Gravels is a revelation. Grapes were picked during the cool of morning to ensure freshness, and the wine shows aromas of juniper, rosewater and crushed wild berries. Succulent flavours of raspberry and pomegranate are joined by a bright acidity that goes well with creamy pasta dishes..
